Saint X (again)

A friend of mine was talking about taking a series of photographs at an event - but there was this reason, that, and another why he wasn't sure if he was actually going to do it. Par for the course, really, getting over the various humps to get it together to make a piece of art. Everything from the initial insecurity to the sad depressing thought that you might end up embarrassing yourself. This April, the Saint of the Month Club presents Saint X with a few scientific facts on the artistic process. Welcome to the Saint of the Month Club. After five years (and more) of making Saints I finally got it together to archive them all. Wander around if you've got some time. Saint Lonely Hearts Club

Valentine's Day was always more intense for me when I wasn't actually hooked up with someone. When you're dating or married, it can seem pretty sentimental with all the champagne and flowers hype - but when you're alone, it's bleak. So this Valentine's day remember the un-hooked up at the Lonely Hearts Club.

Saint George

At a time when I had a problem that could not be solved with finesse, diplomacy or tact (brute force was necessary) I saw a painting of Saint George at a show of Ethiopian Christian art. That was who I needed at my back. More Images here.

Saint Corpus

Corpus is a "you never miss your water till your well runs dry" kind of saint. I was sitting on a stoop worrying about a mischievous body part  - and then I started thinking about everyone I knew with some sort of physical problem - ankles, backs, eyes, knees, prostates and immune systems, etc. In spite of the body’s general reliability and its spellbinding ability to provide transportation, sensory experience, sexual pleasure and more - we only focus on what's wrong - taking all the body's miraculous working parts for granted.

Saints Delilah & Peewee

Delilah and Peewee were about to pop. Peewee lectured me about having a kid, told me I didn't know diddley - you gotta do this that and the other thing - buy all the diapers and clothes and bottles and shoes before the kid is born - wash all the clothes and bottles - and a million other things that seemed premature and rubbed my procrastinating spirit the wrong way. But what do I know? Maybe he's right, I thought.

Saint H

Chastatay is an intensely beautiful girl whom I always wanted to photograph - but as something tough, say, a cop or a criminal. So why not as Saint H, a leather-clad, gun-toting, Black Panther-y female Huey P. Newton?
